Aim of the (SF4) thread
This is where we all get together and discuss how to beat our characters so that we can level the playing field a bit and make it more interesting if the others know your weaknesses. Also general talk about the games played and hopefully some videos.
Legend:
j.<something> - jumping move - for neutral jump use 'nj'
c.<something> - crouching move
s.<something> - standing move
L,M,H - light, medium and heavy resp. usually followed by P or K
PP(P), KK(K) - two (three) punch or kick buttons pressed at the same time
Z, SRK - forward, down, down-forward (for the shoryuken)
QCF,QCB - quarter circle forward or back
> - linking moves so for example as Ryu you can c.mp > c.mp
xx - cancel one move into the next, eg. as Ryu c.mk xx qcf+p
360,720 - just in case anyone uses 'gief/seth
I guess I'll start.
ABEL On jump ins I always do one of the following without fail
The problem with this is I can be thrown out of the MR and the timing on the other option is quite hard. Punish me accordingly.

Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
Awesome, I play Viper and Abel. Neither has a good matchup against 'gief anyway!
'gat I'm used to fighting so we'll have to see

Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
haha, I'mnot a Sagat player. What I meant was that when playing as Zangief, Sagat is impossible. I fear him.
Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
It's not so bad with 'gief against 'gat if you can get close - you'll need to learn timing on LP Banishing Flat to absorb the low tiger shot, and quick lariat the high ones and bulldog him (walk him into the corner) - once there crossups/mixups/throws and pokes to make him stay there - I can give you some practice against 'gat - we'll hook up some player matches - my 'gat is only very average though so won't be great, I know a few of his pokes and pretty good at timing his links
Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
that'd be awesome, thank you. I'll drop you an invite next time we're both on Live.
Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
Any time I'm on I'm willing
Will have roughly three weeks in the middle of August where I have NOTHING to do with my PhD so can spend the entire time on Street Fighter (or whatever I feel like playing on that day)

All about the clean (you have seen my departmental homepage right )
One of the best tips I can give for playing against any Abel (certainly online) is backdash - as soon as I/they start the
and the start hits you mash backdash - the 'anything' part is a 1 frame link (so they have to press the button within a 1/60th of a second time frame) and if the connection isn't top then you can dash back out of it, they then whiff whatever they are doing (not tested with all backdashes - Elf's is absolutely useless so he'll probably still get hit) and you can get in a seriously heavy ground combo.
Against 'gat we all know we should be crossing up - lots, getting the initial knockdown is the hard part. And that he is slow as ALL hell and really likes filling your revenge meter for free by firing tiger shots fullscreen allowing you to focus them and get free meter for 0 health loss

Wahay! my first post!
love what you've done by the way cront, great stuff.
looking forward to all the challenges that await, mwa ha ha.
well here's another tip against Abel, he has no decent reversals, so, if theres a chance, jump in on him, heh.
why I'd exploit his weaknesses I'll never know...

For that mirror match we have planned I'll unleash the beast one day and you won't know what hit you
Need Zangief tips!
The Zangief Hard trail is killing me. I can't do the first one. It's Focus attack - Quick Double Lariat - EX Cancel - EX Banishing Flat. I can't seem to get the timing for the cancel into the banishing flat. Any suggestions? Maybe obvious stuff concerning timing that I'm missing. I've had a look at the youtube videos and all I see are people executing it flawlessly. There don't seem to be any that actually detail what you need to do.
Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
As soon as you press the KKK for the lariat you FADC and while he's dashing do the input for the EX BF, its pretty tricky if you're not comfortable with FADCing but just persevere (or I can show you it in action in a player match so you can see it - wish there was an online training mode...) The only hard trials I've not yet done are Ken 4,5, Viper 5, Elf 5, Cammy 5 (can't be bothered but is pretty easy) and Gen 5. I recently lost my save data where I only had Gen 5 left, so can help with pretty much any of them if people need it
Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
Alright ladettes, so when are we going to get some stuff on the go? i.e -matches, leagues (not sure there's enough yet, hopefully improve soon) match guides, etc, etc.
Anyway, in other news, theres a tournament up here in Glasgow, come the 22nd of August, a few people are coming up from down south (think im the only one from scotland in these forums). Prizepot is £1000, not too shabby eh? Think I might aswell have a go, with my embarrasing 360 pad, hahaha.
I think as you said earlier, Cront, videos would be a brilliant idea. I have nothing capable of anything worthwhile though, might have to delve into that a bit more. Heard capture cards are pretty good. Clueless as to how they run though.

Waiting on these bone idle Swalians
I have 4 or 5 more people ready to sign up so when they have I think we have enough to get going. I'm hoping to have at least something started in a couple of weeks - maybe have two leagues while they finish theirs. I'll sort it out this week and let you all know.
If I can tear myself away from Left 4 Dead
Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread

Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
Any time - if I could pull of Fuerte's ultra on demand I think I could have taken you
They were some good games (and your Ryu is not anywhere near as lucky as you were letting on) and that means I'm just gonna force you to do it again some time!

Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
My Balrog is still unbeaten [I actually even beat Drew the one time I used him against him]
Anyone wanna come and take my 'rog-ginity'?

Re: Aim of the (SF4) thread
hey. my first post. I hear you're the guy cront who set this up so cheers. I'll have a go against your balrog dude. I'm not saying I can take you (i've heard off ben that you're a beast) but I do like being schooled. my gamertag is the same as my profile.

Haha, are you sure about this? hmm.
Ah well, even so, I think i'm just slightly ahead in our records so far anyway
So, has anyone got anything worthwhile to record videos?
